OPEN TO MEMBERS ONLY. Provides a thorough review of all of the Club’s Milton Rifle/Pistol Range Safety Rules, Regulations and Standard Operating Procedures. It also teaches the rules unique to the Solo-Shooter Safety Officer. Each student will be given a copy of the SSO rules guide. This class satisfies the Milton Range requirement for a range orientation. There is no written exam but students are quizzed orally during the class. After the classroom portion of the course is finished students will proceed to the Milton Rifle/Pistol ranges to learn how to open/close the range and where to find range supplies. And finally each student must demonstrate that they can safely operate and discharge a handgun or rifle of their choice. If successfully completed the student will be awarded an “SSO” button conferring the right to use the Milton Rifle/Pistol range during regular shooting hours without the supervision of a Range Safety Officer. SSOs may supervise themselves but they may not bring any guests. Prerequisite: Students must know how to safely operate, load, unload, and discharge the firearm they bring to the training. The New Shooter Only Pistol class is designed for the new shooter, first-time gun owner, or those wishing to revisit the basics of safe pistol shooting. SEMI-AUTOMATIC pistols are preferred, but revolvers are accessible. This 3-hour class is designed to help familiarize the new shooter with firearm safety rules, the safe operation and handling of their new pistol, along with understanding how to properly clear, load, unload, and fire their pistol.
